If I Were President …..

Have you ever thought about what you’d do if you were President of the
    United States?

People always say you can’t really judge the President, because he’s aware
of facts not known to the general public.  Also, there is tremendous pressure
from members of Congress for the President to decide this way or that.

But I’ll tell you some things I’ think I would do immediately:

First, I’d  figure a way to halt all new immigration.  I would explain that
the existing number of illegal immigrants is ‘busting the bank’ and we just
cannot afford to allow any new immigrants into the country until the number
of illegals is reduced.  When the total number of illegals is reduced by
by 100,000, we’ll use a lottery system to allow 100,000 new legal immigrants
to enter; when a million illegals have left the country, we’ll allow in a million
new legals, etc.  I would, of course, encourage people to report illegals, so
that they can be rounded up and deported.  I think the relatives of those who
have applied for legal entry into the U.S. would be quite active in reporting illegals
in their area, and the number of illegals could be reduced rather quickly.

Second, I would put a permanent halt on immigrants from countries that
promote or permit radical Muslims.  I realize that the majority of Muslims
are like you and me….they just want to feed their families and live their lives
in peace.  But the problem is, we can’t tell the peaceful Muslims from the
ones who are building bombs in their basements, hoping some day to wipe
you and me off the map.  And the only sure way to keep the radical Muslims
out, is to keep them all out.  As the say goes; “not all Muslims are terrorists,
but so far all the terrorists have been Muslim.”

Thirdly, I’d put a heavy tariff on all incoming goods and materials.  Let’s
face it…..we can’t compete with places like China and the Philippines,
where employees earn a couple of bucks a day, and maintain our standard
of living.  When I was 25 years old, I applied for 3 jobs, and was offered a
position at each of them, at a wage that would have allowed my wife to stay
home with the children and with benefits that would have covered my
family’s health care needs.  At that time, manufacturing was strong in America,
and workers were in great demand.

Fourthly, I would make it illegal for any lobbyist to contact any member of
Congress, or any government employee.  We don’t need any more lobbyists
writing laws favorable to themselves, and having Congress rubber-stamp the
laws in return for political donations and other considerations.

Finally, I would push very, very hard for term limits.  What we really need in
Congress are intelligent, decent, hard-working individuals who only have
the interest of the people of the United States at heart.

People will say this is all pretty naive, that such goals could never be
accomplished…..and you are right, of course.  But it’s ok, because I know
I’ll never be the President.  However, it’s like buying a ticket for the lottery..
I know I’ll never win, but it’s always fun to contemplate the ‘what if’s’.

  1. Hey Hambone I dont think it’s naive thinking but it probably won’t happen. I think they are good ideas. The only thing I don’t agree with is the tariff idea because those things never work. However, there has to be something that could be done to keep trade with China from being a one way street. I’m not a global economist though so I dont know. Maybe Sam or his his friend Jeff might have some thoughts on that. No Sam, not being a wiseacre, I figure you might have a thought or two on the subject. I know one thing though, as long as China owns as much of our debt as they do, it’s going to be hard to force anything on them.

  2. First thing I would do is deport one ACE MERRILL, ASAP

On immigration, offer a one time $5,000 offer for illegals to turn themselves in and leave, we cannot close our borders as you suggest.

Repeal Obamo’s health care bill ASAP….and REPEAL OBAMO !

Squid you should really get over your fixation with me. Your fellow facist imperialists will begin to think you have been hiding something from them. I know you wish I would go because everytime I show up I reduce you to a quivering mass of jelly so I suggest you give up trying to compete with me Squid. Now on to your post, would you mind explaining why you were critical to Mr Hambone, insinuating that he is suggesting closing the borders? I don’t read that in his post. He does want to control immigration and we should all agree with that. There are enough immigrants in this country already. As far as your idea to pay them to leave. Thats kind of insane. Why not pay all criminals to turn themselves in? They are called illegal immigrants for a reason. Why reward them for it? Now if you want to pay 5,000 dollars for everyone that gets turned in, that’s okay. Now Squid go back in your corner. I will let you know when you are needed.

  3. Ace,

Trust me, you do not make me into a quivering mass of jelly. You and your fellow liberals must be very happy with the current state of Obamo-land, high-fiving all the time , while this country is turned into the third world.

You call me a liberal? Your the one that thinks the only way to solve illegal immigration is to pay them. More entitlements? Seems like the liberal way to me. I say round em up, kick their butts out, and dont let em back!

  4. Ace,

Yes, I am going to write this, I do not disagree with you, though we are not a ” round em type of country “, we have a problem that politicians just pass the buck or look the other way and hope it goes away. Baffles me as to the reaction to what Arizona did, the key word here is “illegal”, our governemnet just does not enforce the law…In my travels outside the US, I have always have my papers, proper identification with me, and have no problem at having to present when asked, always mindful that I am a guest in their country
