Religious Stupidity
If you want an example of religious stupidity, and irresponsibility. you can look
to the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainsville, Florida. It’s pastor, Terry
Jones, has announced plans to burn copies of the Quran on September 11 to
mark the 9th anniversary of the carnage wrought by Islamic terrorists on
America.
This, at a time when we have thousands of our servicemen stationed
in Muslim countries. As I write this, hundreds of protesters are gathered
in Kabul, Afghanistan, burning the U.S,. flag and calling for the death of
President Obama and to America. According to news reports, a passing
U.S. convoy was pelted with rocks as they passed the protesters.
It was reported that thousands of Indonesians have been demonstrating
at American embassies there.
Does Terry Jones not remember the furor years back when Newsweek
mentioned in a article that U.S. military interrogators were tearing up
the Quran and flushing it down the toilet in order to get the prisoners
to talk? At least 15 people were killed in the rioting that followed. The
assertion turned out to not be true, and Newsweek later recanted. But
the damage had been done.
Terry Jones has been asked by the State Department not to continue
with his plans for the Quran burning. He has refused, saying the
purpose of the burning is not to offend all Muslims, but to let those
who are terrorists know that they are not welcome in America. I ask
you, how stupid is that? To offend an entire religion to send a message
to a relativly small group?
I have just learned that General Petraeus has stated that Terry Jones’s
plan to burn the Quran not only places the many thousands of U.S.
soldiers around the world in jeapordy, but also every American outside
the U.S.
Terry Jones is an idiot. No doubt he relishes the attention he is receiving,
and no doubt he has grandeur visions of his church swelling with new
members and of himself becoming a major religious leader in America.
But every American should view Terry Jones and his small flock as
a serious threat to all free peoples everywhere. Not just in the immediate
fallout of protests by the Muslims worldwide, but in future legislation
designed to prevent such an event in the future.
We in America enjoy unlimited free speech and freedom of religion. But
obviously one lame-brained nitwit cannot be allowed to infuriate and
inflame an entire religion, to the detriment of Americans everywhere.
And thus, the current crises – endangering American soldiers and
civilians everywhere – and the future fallout of having our freedoms
curtailed in some manner.
All because of the actions of one incredibly stupid Terry Jones.

Well written Hambone. You pretty much know my feelings on the general subject, but what Jones is doing is wrong. For the reasons you have listed and just because it’s wrong. As I have said before, just because something is legally right, doesn’t mean it should be done. Whether it’s burning Qurans or building Mosques on the site of the destroyed Trade Center Towers.
1Welcome to our world, Sept 2010…..I agree is totally wrong, irony is what our troops fight for, to preserve our freedoms, enables this guy to speak and do these actions
2As with the Mosque building at Ground Zero, just because something is legal, does not make it right. Both of these so called relgious leaders are idiots and should back off their respective plans.
3According to a news article I read this morning, Terry Jones is
4leaving himself some ‘wiggle-room’ by stating that he’s going to
follow God’s direction in the matter. Maybe the fact that he’s had over a hundred death threats so far is weakening his resolve.
Whatever works, I guess.
Although likely thats it, I will be happy if he wants to say God told him not to do it.
5I predict God will direct him not to do this….read something where his own “church” has said this is crazy, he is acting alone….and the band played on and on…….
6I hope so. There is absolutely no good reason for him to go forward with doing that.
7At the risk of having the last three words: Right On Hambone
8Dogs with cats…end times…we agree!!
9Saw where Obama has even come out to ask this guy, not to do this “stunt”, and the band plays on…..
10Saw this comment this morning
Question: Would there be worldwide rage against a group if they were to say: “We’re going to burn Bibles on Saturday?” Doubtbul.
and the band plays on……
11Squid of course their wouldn’t be. Still, its a stupid thing he is doing and does no good. He’s a two bit dirt road WWII airplane hanger church preacher that at best will double his flock from 50 to 100!
12TM…ponder this, if this event would have happened on Sept 12,2001, response would have been a lot different than today.
13Throughout history, people have been tortured and killed for owning a Bible. And if there were a Bible burning, I have no
14doubt that millions of people would be upset because of the symbolism of the act. Yet, we are rational enough to realize
that a Bible is merely ink on paper, printed by man. New Bibles can be printed quickly and cheaply. It is the content of the Bible, the teachings and guidelines for the conduct of our lives, that we hold dear. Banning the Bible would cause an uprising for sure. But burning a copy of the Bible? I think most of us would just shrug our shoulders and pass the burner
off as some kind of whack job.
Probably true. We would get mad and call Hannity/Boortz/Beck etc. Some of the Muslim element will react in quite a different manner though. I just dont see the point. What is he proving? Is anything going to change?
15TM…As I mentioned above, If this would have happened on Sept 12,2001, you might have seen a totally different reaction
16Not sure I follow your reasoning. Are you saying 3000 people dying were only meaningful because it was 911?
17No..No..If this guy was burning the Koran then right after the attacks, you would NOT be seeing this uproar as you are now
18Ok got you. You are probably right. However I was watching a show about 9/11 over the weekend and I was extremely pissed about what those mf’ers did and what we allowed them to do. We helped train those bastards and there was no plan in place to handle the situation once it become evident that the planes were not merely being hijacked. As cold as it sounds if it happens again they should be shot down. The passengers died anyway, at least dont give them a victory. Doesnt change my mind about the Quran burning though.
19You know that I called Terry Jones a fool and an idiot. Well, double and triple that. This fellow must have a tremendous ego.
As you know, he has cancelled….at least for now….his plans to burn the Quran on September 11. Because, he says, he has been
told the building site for the mosque in Manhattan will be moved if only he will not burn the Quran.
No doubt Terry Jones pictures himself a world player…and in his pea brain he thinks he will resolve an issue that scores of world leaders and millions of protesting Americans haven’t been able to resolve.
I don’t think so.
