Director and Writer John Hughes dies
John Hughes, director of a number of teen movies in the late 80’s died today of a heart attack. He was on a walk in Manhattan when he passed. His director credits include:
- Curly Sue (1991)
- Uncle Buck (1989)
- She’s Having a Baby (1988)
- Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
- Weird Science (1985)
- The Breakfast Club (1985)
- Sixteen Candles (1984)
He was also a writer on numerous other movies including Vacation, Europeon Vacation, Christmas Vacation, The Great Outdoors, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and others as well as producer of many of these.
I have watched his movies many times and I never get tired of them. He had not directed since 1991 but he definitely made his mark on popular culture and gave us plenty of laughs. I couldn’t begin to pick a favorite but I would watch Christmas Vacation if it came on in the middle of July!
From Christmas Vacation thanks to IMDB, a great movie website.
Clark: Oh, I was just smelling – smiling. I was just blouse – browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn’t… Oh hee hee, it wouldn’t be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they – HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn’t it?
Mary: You have your coat on.
Clark: Yes, oh do I? Yeah, it is a bit nipply out. I mean nippy. What am I saying, nipple?
And who can forget Ferris Bueller and his daylong adventures with Sloane and Cameron, skipping school and wreaking havoc upon Chicago.
Great stuff…great writer….great director.

I loved that Uncle Buck movie I had the same car he had.
Between Atlanta and Macon it would burn enough oil I
never had to change it.
