The answer my friend…..

Is Blowing In the Wind.

WHO IS BOB DYLAN?

Dylan once quoted “All I can be is me, whoever that is”, so how can we

know who he is. It seems with all the followers he has had over the years and

still has, they know who he is.

Born Robert Allen Zimmerman in 1941 he touts himself as an American singer -

songwriter and musician. Bob Dylan his name, influenced by the Welsh

poet Dylan Thomas was made legal in 1962.

Bob Dylan has crossed all genres of music and has written, played and sang

with the best of them to include stars such as Janis Joplin to Johnny Cash,

and a host of others ,too many to mention here.

While I have always thought of him as a Folk singer and still do, he has had

many successes in other genre of music such as Country, Gospel, Rock, Blues

and lets not forget his songs of protest. The song that comes to mind is his

Blowing In The Wind that I first heard being sung by Peter, Paul and Mary

back in the early 60s, this song written by Dylan was a partial melody taken

from the slave song “No More Auction Block” that originated in Canada after

the British abolished slavery in 1833.

Bob Dylan Has been accused of plagiarism for many of his writings some have

proven to be untrue like Blowing in the Wind, some college student said

he had written but later denied the fact. He has also been accused of being a

product of the Columbia record label as an industry-manufactured sham, who’s

to say, you either like him or you don’t. I think, and its just my opinion that

many recording artists bend to the whim of recording labels because that’s

where the money is, so if its true with Bob Dylan he is not alone Joni Mitchell.

Through the years Bob Dylan has received many awards for his contribution

to the music industry. In fact nine other artists have recorded tribute albums

of Dylan’s music such as the Hollies, Joan Baez and Judy Collins. He has eleven

Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy award. His singles total 68

with 46 of them getting into the top 100. He recorded 34 studio albums, 13

live albums and 14 compilation albums were published.

Not to bad for a manufactured sham. Watch ya think

  1. Hambone,

Dylan is awesome…You ever listen to Thunder Road ?…My wife and I saw in several years ago at a beach resort in Uruguay, and he brought down the house, a true international star !

Columbia tried the same thing with Johnny Cash

I never cared much for him. He always seemed a bit pretentious and his singing skills are quite lacking in my opinion. Always sounds like he has a mouth of marbles. He is a good writer though.

  2. You are both right in your assumptions Bob Dylan was a true International Star performing his music in many countries around the world. His singing voice was not his best asset, neither was Willie Nelsons or Johnny Cash, its just the way they put the songs over and how the audience accepts them.

Funny you should say that. I never cared for Johnny Cash either until the movie with Jaquin Phoenix came out. I enjoyed the movie and the music and now have several CDs. Still no fan of Dylan though. Doesnt help he was in the worst movie ever made! Knocking on Heavens Door.

  3. I am not sure what movie you are talking about. Knocking on heavens door was a movie about two guys dying of cancer and getting to know each other. The movie with Dylan in was pat Garrett and Billy the Kid a wastern with Kris Kristofferson as the Kid and James Coburn as Pat Garrett.
